Bennett Warning On Panthers

WAYNE Bennett says the Broncos would be ‘lying to themselves’ if they didn’t respect the Penrith juggernaut coming at them tomorrow night.

The Panthers have disappointed with two wins from eight games to start the season after being named the premiership favourites in March.

But Bennett knows a good team when he sees one, and that’s why he knows what is coming tomorrow at Suncorp Stadium.

The Panthers have been in camp on the Gold Coast as they plan an ambush on the Broncos.

So Bennett reminded his team of just what to expect after training this morning.

“They have a very talented football team and if you don’t respect that you are lying to yourself,” he said.

“They are very capable, and have just had a bad start to the season.”

Conversely the Broncos have won three straight, but have had to scrape home in successive weeks against the Titans and Rabbitohs.

Bennett said he admired the way the team fought from behind to beat the Rabbitohs, but didn’t want them to let leads slip.

“Not inviting teams back into the game,” he said when asked where he wanted to see improvement.

“It was a key thing as we had a good lead at halftime.

“I didn’t think it was their good play that got them back, it was an accumulation of things we did just after halftime.

“But to our credit we showed fighting spirit and came back into the game.

“With 20 minutes to go it was 24-18 but they got themselves back on track on got them on top with a win.”

Jordan Kahu trained strongly this morning and will play against the Panthers after missing last week’s win.
