Bunnies' Surprise Danger Man

WAYNE Bennett has identified the danger man for the Rabbitohs – and it might not be who you think.

While Adam Reynolds and hooker double act Robbie Farah and Damien Cook present plenty of trouble, it is the five-eighth Bennett is worried about.

The Broncos tried to convince Cody Walker to come north last year, but he stayed at the Bunnies.

And he has been a shining light this year, second in the entire NRL on line breaks with eight in seven games, just one behind Raiders’ winger Jordan Rapana.

Bennett said the Broncos would have to mark Walker closely.

“The fact they will want to play well against the Broncos will really lift them,” he said of the Rabbitohs.

“He (Walker) is a wonderful player and would have fitted in very well here.

“But he made the choice to stay there and he is playing wonderful for them.

“He is a danger player.”

Bennett promoted David Mead to the wing this morning after Jordan Kahu (groin) failed to get through training.

Jonus Pearson comes onto the wing.

Grand final prop from 2015 Joe Ofahengaue will also get his first start of the season, and Bennett said he had learned a hard lesson after losing his first grade spot last year.

“Joe probably got a bit ahead of himself and he had to go back and realise what playing NRL means,” he said.

“He has done a great job of it, and has been close to the best if not the best forward for (affiliate club) Souths Logan.

“His form is good and he is ready to go.

“It’s not an attitude thing, they just get opportunities and get ahead of themselves and think they have made it when they haven’t really made it.

“You have never really made it – every week you have to have yourself up for the game whether you have played 100 or 200 games.”
